Recommendations

There are a lot of great free tips and resources for using linkedin.

If you're wondering how to give a recommendation, check out this article titled;

"How to offer a recommendation/endorsement for someone you respect on LinkedIn!"

The value of recommendations is improved by proper use of the feature. I have avoided "he's my buddy so he's great" kinds of recommendations.

Who to connect with

This article from Andrea J. Stenberg talks about quality vs. quantity in connecting. It also reminds me of what was stated this morning with the W.E. Network group - it's not networking to, it's networking through.

Social Media Revolution

Check out this video;

I picked up on this in particular, at about the 1:05 mark; "80% of companies are using LinkedIn as their primary tool to find employees"  (here's the full url if the video isn't coming up for you; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIFYPQjYhv8&feature=fvst )

I believe this goes beyond "find employees" to "find business partners, services, etc."

Setting the bar high!

I found David Kearsley when I read this blog posting on JobMob. David's website has to be the best implementation of social media that I have yet seen. Everything is there, all in one very attractive package. As a computer geek I've always put the "look and feel" aspect of my work below the functionality (to my detriment), but David's site just exudes professionality. Since he's put such high quality into his website, would you doubt that he's going to do the same in any project he's involved in?

I'm interested to see where David's personal branding efforts take him. He's off to a great start!
